Operation Jump Start is a Long Beach community based organization dedicated
to equipping disadvantaged Long Beach youth with the skills and vision necessary
to graduate from high school and go on to higher education in order to realize
their potential through a college education.
Operation Jump Start assists these children by providing each with dedicated
volunteer mentors who promotes academic persistence and encourages post-secondary
education to disadvantaged students beginning in 8th grade and continuing
through high school graduation- a period of five years!

Operation Jump Start is thrilled to have this exciting opportunity and hope that you will join us on Sunday, October 12, 2008 as we partner with the Long Beach International City Bank Marathon to raise money for underserved children in Long Beach. There are several ways you can participate in this event:
- Run as one of our participants
- Support others who are running on our behalf by contributing financially to the team
- Invite others to join you and make a donation through the OJS Contribution Page

By supporting OJS, you can help students attain the dream of higher education by helping them move beyond their impoverished environments to ensure their full social and economic participation in the future, building better lives for themselves, their families and ultimately their communities. Through OJS enrichment programming, leadership development, and educational skill-building activities, the essential elements to healthy adolescent development are addressed. What We Do Works!
Despite dismal high school graduation rates in the greater Long Beach area,
Operation Jump Start graduates defy the odds:
- 100% Graduate from high school
- 97% Attend college immediately after high school
- 81% of college entrants attend a 4-year college or university
By providing over 360 hours of dedicated individualized services to each vulnerable
child through crucial programming and long-term support from a mentor, Operation
Jump Start motivates students for higher education, increases self-confidence,
cultural sensitivity and a sense of belonging and participation in their community.
